Teaching Karate - Community Service

Taking Karate Into the Community

This summer a few of our students have had the opportunity to take karate to the community. Westwood Baptist Church Children’s Ministry took a little twist on the normal Wednesday Bible Study time. When the children arrive, they join together for a short time of Bible Study as a group. During this time, they are learning about different “occupations/talents” that men and women had in the Bible and how all the different talents and jobs were and can be used in the community. After the Bible Study, the children move to a “special activity” class. They were allowed to choose from several classes and will have the opportunity to do a different class for the second session. Some of these classes included sewing, mechanics, etiquette, cooking, and of course karate!

Ashleigh, Matthew, and Hayden have had the opportunity to teach some karate basics to children ages Kindergarten through 5th Grade. They have taught them the importance of warming up, basic kicks, punches, and will even be doing a board breaking class. Since much of Isshinryu (the type of martial arts taught at Legacy Martial Arts) is based on self-defense, they have always been able to incorporate this into their lessons.

Opportunities like this in the community are such a great chance for our instructors and students. They get to show off a sport that they love, in hopes of gaining another who loves it to work along beside them. If you or someone you know, would be interested in having our Demo Team, come to your event, please give us a call at 423-472-5436. We would love to come do a demonstration for you!
